Hungarian Photographers Around the World

The photograph as instrument of artistic expression: Balázs Kulcsár will give an illustrated talk about famous Hungarian photographers and show some of his own pictures. The evening will also feature István Kónya on the lute.

Antal András Deák : Ferdinando Marsigli and Johann Christoph Müller’s
Discovery of the Danube (1726)

Antal András Deák is assistant director of the Danube Museum, Esztergom.
He will discuss the concept, history and legacy of this extraordinary pioneering work.

Mia Nadasi : Pirouettes and Passions: Growing up Behind the Curtain

Mia, a Hungarian-born actress and writer, will introduce and read excerpts from her book which gives an account of life in the world of ballet and theatre during the days of Soviet rule. With the participation of actor Paul Ridley.

A large selection of Hungarian wines brought to us by Trans-Danubia Wines & Spirits Ltd. There will be a charge for this event: Ł5 for non-members and Ł3 for those who pay subs, but good discounts will be available if you order wines during the tasting.

Derek Hannon, Press Attaché of the Irish Embassy in London (one time first consul in Budapest) will give his own impressions of Hungary from his time there (1995-9) and compare the two countries’ attitudes to the EU.
